This past summer, Soh Daiko had a blast performing at the New York Buddhist Church’s Obon Festival in Bryant Park. Despite the heat, we opened with Miyake, a power piece, and then moved on to our version of the traditional lion dance, which can get a little non-traditional when it comes to that feisty lion! Next we played Bon Daiko, an original piece composed by our members with a festive atmosphere of friendly competition and togetherness. And what performance would be complete without our signature piece, Hachidan? We sweated and smiled our hearts out. Thank you to all who came out to dance with the spirit of our ancestors!
