After 6+ months of sweat and bloody blisters, sore muscles, and drilling drilling and more drilling, Soh Daiko is happy to announce that Joon Paik and Matt Tom-Wolverton survived the trainee and probationary period to become our newest members! As the group’s 72nd and 73rd members, Matt and Joon have joined a line of talented artists who share the passion of taiko. Our group would like to congratulate all their hard work and dedication! Soh Daiko will join our sister taiko group Hoh Daiko once again in Seabrook, NJ for Seabrook Buddhist Temple’s 80th annual Obon Festival. We hope you can join us for a wonderful evening of dancing, drumming, and friendship!
Obon is an annual Buddhist event intended to honor one’s ancestors. During this time, it is believed that the spirits of our ancestors return to this world to visit their relatives. Traditionally, lanterns (“obon,” in Japanese) are hung in front of one’s home to guide the spirits along their way.
